Contractor Action 9 Exposed Faces Criminal Charges

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

A contractor Action 9 first exposed for taking big deposits, then disappearing, now faces criminal charges. Peter Spaziano was arraigned in Polk County for grand theft and fraud, in multiple cases here in central Florida. Action 9's Todd Ulrich reports, many victims hope this is the first step toward getting their money back.

Most of his victims are in Orange county---but Peter Spaziano was arraigned at a Polk County courthouse--because the state attorney's office here thought what he did to homeowners was criminal.

Consumer who lost thousands never expected to see Peter Spaziano in jailhouse orange---and facing felony charges for cheating consumers.

"Are you going to be able to retain an attorney sir?", asked the judge.

He plead not guilty to multiple counts of grand theft, fraud, and unlicensed contracting. The case involves 13 consumers---in Orange, Osceola, and 4 other counties--- where he's accused of collecting deposits--then not doing the jobs.

Action 9 first exposed Spaziano in 1998--and uncovered 30 victims.

(Todd Ulrich) "I've been chasing you for 10 years, yet here you are again," (Spaziano) "Are you tv?" (Todd Ulrich) "Sure we are."

Our last investigation found Spaziano using contractor websites to convince customers---like Faye Haveard---he was reliable.

"We didn't exptect to get ripped off," said Faye.

She lost 14 hundred dollars after he signed a contract to build a concrete wall---then he never came back. For Faye, Spaziano's arraignment was a big victory.

"At least maybe he'll serve time for being the con man that he is," said Faye.

If convicted, Spaziano faces 5 to 15 years behind bars, and of course victims hope restitution is part of any punishment.
