Woman Felt Tricked Into $3,000.00 Vacuum Cleaner

Would you pay 3 thousand dollars for a vacuum cleaner? A Volusia County woman claims a local company "tricked" her into paying that much and it would have cleaned out her bank account. She called Action 9's Todd Ulrich for help who confronted the company to get results.

At first answers were hard to come by at Advanced Air Care in Polk County. It had sold a Tri Star vacuum cleaner to Carol Conner in Orange City. Carol says the salesman told her it cost $300 plus financing charges. The next day Carol got a call about the financing. " (I was) shocked, not surprised, shocked." According to Carol that's the first time she heard the vacuum really costs $3,000. Her receipt is nearly impossible to read. Carol told her neighbor what happened.

Jim O'Brien (neighbor) "They never told her what the total amount was...they only told her $48.00 a month." Jim O'Brien contacted Action 9 and we told him to send a letter of cancellation within 3 days ( as state law allows ). He did. That's a good thing, because when Carol tried to cancel by phone she heard. " We'll be out there Thursday and have some papers for you to sign."

That Thursday would have been day four, so it would have been too late for Carol to cancel the sale. Later Advanced Air's owner told Action 9 the vacuum actually came with a ultraviolent light and air purifier so that's why it cost $3,000, and that Carol knew the full price, but the company had gone ahead and cancelled the contract.

Advanced Air Care is rated "F" at the Better Business Bureau because of serious and unanswered complaints.
