Sturm Retains Title In Rematch With Griffin
Saturday, July 5, 2008
Halle, Germany -- (Sports Network) - Germany's Felix Sturm again successfully defended his WBA middleweight title with a unanimous decision victory over American Randy Griffin on Saturday at Gerry Weber Stadium.Back in October 2007, Sturm fought to a 12-round draw with Griffin, as the judges ruled the fight 115-114 for Sturm, 114-117 for Griffin and 114-114, as Sturm escaped with his title. Saturday, though, Sturm (30-2-1) won in more convincing fashion, as the judges scored the fight 116-112, 116-113, and 118-110 in favor of the defender. The fight was more aggressive than the first meeting, and Sturm landed clean shots in addition to putting up a good defense of Griffin (24-2-3). Sturm has successfully defended his WBA belt in four bouts, having also beaten Jamie Pittman via TKO in April.
