Sosa Retains WBC Light Flyweight Title

Sunday, September 28, 2008

(Sports Network) - Edgar Sosa had another successful defense of his WBC light flyweight title with a 12-round win over Sonny Boy Jaro by unanimous decision on Saturday night.

Sosa (33-5), who actually fell after being hit by Jaro (28-7) in the ninth round, went the distance and won on the scorecards, 117-110, 118-109 and 117-110.

It was the sixth title defense for Sosa, and first since June, when the 29- year-old defeated Takashi Kunishige by technical knockout in the eighth round. Sosa first won the interim 108-pound crown with a majority decision over Brian Viloria in April 2007 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The Mexico City native has not lost a bout since September of 2003, a roll of 21 consecutive matches.
