Tuesday, March 4, 2008

(Sports Network) - Shawn Huff scored 16 points to lead the sixth-seeded Valparaiso Crusaders to a 75-67 win over the seventh-seeded Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

Urule Igbavboa added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Crusaders (20-12), who will move on to face Wright State in the second round of the Horizon League Tournament on Friday. Jake Diebler and Jarryd Loyd each netted 13 points in the victory, while Bryan Bouchie tallied 11 points.

The Phoenix (15-15) were led by Mike Schachtner, who scored 14 points in a losing effort. Rahmon Fletcher and Ryan Tillema also got involved, scoring 13 points apiece, while Randy Berry turned in 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite shooting just 31 percent from the field in the first half, Valpo was able to take a 29-17 lead at the break.

The Crusaders converted 23-of-36 free-throw attempts in the second stanza to hold on for the eight-point.

Foul-shooting proved to be the difference in this contest, as Valpo outscored the Phoenix 31-12 from the charity stripe.
