NCAA Game Summary - Boston College Vs. Maryland

(Sports Network) - All-ACC guard Tyrese Rice scored 19 points and came away with five steals, helping lift the 11th-seeded Boston College Eagles to a 71-68 upset win over sixth-seeded Maryland in the opening round of the ACC Tournament at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

Rakim Sanders chipped in with 13 points for BC (14-16). Reserves Biko Paris (12 points), Shamari Spears (10 points, nine rebounds) and Josh Southern (10 points, eight boards) combined for 32 points off the bench.

James Gist paced Maryland (18-14) with a solid all-around game, tallying 19 points, six rebounds, five blocks and four steals. Greivis Vasquez tallied 11 points, nine assists and seven boards, while Eric Hayes also added 11 points in the loss.

Maryland jumped out to a 31-25 halftime lead, after shooting 52.2 percent from the field.

The Terps led by as many as nine early in the second half, but BC rallied back to take a 40-39 lead on a layup by Paris with less than 13 minutes to play. Maryland reclaimed a three-point lead with seven minutes to play, but BC reeled off a 13-0 run and never looked back.

BC moves on to face third-seeded Clemson in the quarterfinals Friday at 9:30 p.m.
