NCAA Game Summary - Drexel Vs. Delaware

Friday, March 7, 2008

(Sports Network) - In first round action of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament at Richmond Coliseum, the seventh-seeded Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens upended the 10th-seeded Drexel Dragons, 60-51, as Marc Egerson led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Herb Courtney also put up a good effort for the Blue Hens (14-16), finishing with 14 points and eight rebounds before fouling out. Alphonso Dawson drained 3-of-5 from three-point land to finish with 13 points, and Jim Ledsome rounded out the top scorers with 10 points.

Frank Elegar was the only Dragon (12-20) notching double-figures, ending up with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.

Delaware managed nine more field goals attempts than the Dragons in the hard- fought opening stanza, and the Blue Hens' 42.9 percent shooting effort from the floor allowed them a 28-25 edge at the break.

Drexel again only managed nine field goals in the second half, and the Blue Hens sealed the nine-point decision at the free throw line with a 11-for-12 performance from the stripe.

Free throw shooting proved to be the difference in the game, as Delaware sunk 13-of-16 from the stripe, while Drexel only made half of its 22 attempts at the line. The Fightin' Blue Hens advance and now face off against UNC Wilmington in the quarterfinals.
