Fresno, CA -- (Sports Network) - Walter Thompson scored 15 points to lead the University of Portland Pilots to a 73-62 victory over the Liberty Flames as part of the World Vision Classic. Jared Stohl tallied 12 points and Robin Smeulders added 11 points for the University of Portland (1-2). Luke Sikma contributed 10 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals for the Pilots. Alex McLean posted 19 points and 10 rebounds in defeat for Liberty (0-3), which got 17 points and seven assists from TeeJay Bannister. Portland shot 10-of-11 from the foul line in the first half and led 34-31 at intermission. Strong defense enabled the Pilots to seal the victory, as they held the Flames to 31.3 percent shooting from the field over the final 20 minutes. Liberty finished with 11 assists and 17 turnovers, while Portland had 15 assists and 15 giveaways.
