Saturday, March 1, 2008

(Sports Network) - Todd Hendley dropped in a game-high 20 points and snared seven rebounds, as the UNC Wilmington Seahawks downed the Old Dominion Monarchs, 72-64, in Colonial Athletic Association play at Trask Coliseum.

Hendley nailed 8-of-11 shots from the floor, as UNCW (19-12, 12-6 CAA) earned the second seed and a first round bye in the upcoming CAA Tournament. T.J. Carter posted 17 points and five boards, while Chad Tomko had 15 points in the winning effort.

Jonathan Adams came off the bench and scored 16 points to lead ODU (17-14, 11-7) in defeat. Brian Henderson and Brandon Johnson each chipped in with 10 points, as the Monarchs saw their six-game win streak come to an end.

UNCW shot 56.0 percent from the floor over the first 20 minutes of action and it jumped out to a 31-21 lead at the break.

In the second stanza, the Seahawks converted 23-of-29 free-throw attempts, as they earned the eight-point victory.

UNCW won the battle on the boards, 38-27, and held ODU to a lackluster 36.9 percent shooting effort from the field in the game.
