NCAA Game Summary - Rider At Old Dominion

Norfolk, VA -- (Sports Network) - Frank Hassell scored 14 points and collected nine rebounds to lead the Old Dominion Monarchs to a 68-65 victory over the Rider Broncs in the opening round of the College Basketball Invitational at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Brandon Johnson added 10 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists in the win for Old Dominion (18-15). Ryan Thompson posted a game-high 24 points and grabbed eight boards to pace Rider (23-11), while Jason Thompson tallied 15 points to go with 17 rebounds. Harris Mansell netted 14 points in the losing effort. Rider was held to a meager 37.0 percent shooting from the floor during the first period of play, and the Broncs went into the break trailing 36-27. The Monarchs shot just 44.8 percent from the field during the second stanza, but the nine-point halftime lead helped the club escape with the three-point victory. The Monarchs advance to the quarterfinals and will face Virginia on Monday.
