Hoyas Hammer Radford
Sunday, December 16, 2007
Washington, DC -- (Sports Network) - Austin Freeman came off the bench to score 21 points and DaJuan Summers added 17 as fifth-ranked Georgetown ran past Radford, 110-51, at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas (8-0) are off to their best start since 2003-04 when they began the season 10-0. Five Hoyas scored in double figures, as Patrick Ewing, Jr. had 15, Jessie Sapp added 13 and Jonathan Wallace put in 11 points. Roy Hibbert led Georgetown with seven rebounds. "I thought tonight was one of Roy's biggest games since he's been here, believe it or not," Hoyas coach John Thompson III said. "I thought he was terrific particularly in the second half just with his decision-making process and the way he pursued the ball, the way he worked on the defensive end, making it hard for (Radford) to get the ball inside. Too many people look at the stat sheets and make determinations on how someone plays and that's hard to do because of how we do things, but I thought Roy was absolutely terrific." Radford (4-7) was led in scoring by Amir Johnson's 12 points and Kenny Thomas with 10. "You don't think about them in terms of speed and quickness because you marvel at how savvy and how efficient," Radford coach Brad Greenberg said of the Hoyas. "They do have deceptive speed and quickness at a lot of positions and they're very deep. I think they're faster and quicker in person than they might look on tape because their first impression is to appreciate how the play." Georgetown began the game fast as it quickly built a 24-9 lead early in the first-half. The Hoyas continued to extend their lead over Radford, leading by as much as 30 with five minutes to go until halftime. The Highlanders chipped away as the half came to a close, getting to within 49-28 just before intermission. Georgetown closed the first-half with a 52-28 lead. The second-half was more of the same with the Hoyas lapping the Highlanders to eventually lead 92-46 with 6:18 remaining. Georgetown hit the century mark with 5:24 left to take a 100-47 lead. Game Notes This was the first meeting between these two teams. Georgetown has an all-time record of 10-0 against teams from the Big South Conference. This was the first time this season the Hoyas scored at least 100 points in a game. Radford last allowed triple digits for an opponent when it beat VMI 114-107 on February 14. Georgetown outrebounded Radford 39-24. The Hoyas shot 65 percent for the game and hit 11-of-22 three-point shots.
