Braun To Take Over As Coach Of Rice

Monday, April 7, 2008

(Sports Network) - Rice is set to name Ben Braun as its new men's basketball coach, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The newspaper is reporting that the university will introduce the former California coach at a 3 p.m. (et) news conference on Monday.

Braun would replace Willis Wilson, the winningest coach in Rice history, who was fired in March after the Owls finished just 3-27 this past season.

Wilson compiled a 219-246 career mark at Rice and led the school to three NIT appearances.

Braun, the 1997 Pac-10 coach of the year, was 219-154 in 12 seasons at Cal and led the Golden Bears to five NCAA tournaments.

Cal also won the 1999 NIT title under Braun's leadership.
