Thursday, February 28, 2008
Milwaukee, WI -- (Sports Network) - Paige Paulsen and Ricky Franklin each netted 16 points as the Wisonsin-Milwaukee Panthers thwarted the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, 68-53 in a Horizon League matchup at U.S. Cellular Arena. The win snapped a three-game skid for the Panthers (14-14, 9-8 HL), who also got 13 points from Allan Hanson. Loyola-Chicago (11-17, 6-11) had won back-to-back games, but J.R. Blount's 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists were not enough to pull out the win. Andy Polka was the only other Rambler to post double-digits with 11 points. Both squads struggled from the field in the first half, as Wisconsin- Milwaukee's five trifectas pushed the Panthers ahead 31-27 at the break. Loyola hit only 10 field goals in the second frame and just 2-of-7 from behind the arc in the second half, ruining its chance for a comeback effort in the 15- point setback. Wisconsin-Milwaukee was excellent from behind the arc, hitting 11-of-22 from three-point land while holding its opponent to just 4-of-13 shooting from downtown.
