NCAA Game Summary - U-A-B At Marshall

Huntington, WV -- (Sports Network) - Bernard Morris scored on a one-yard run with 1:07 left in the game, lifting the Marshall Thundering Herd to a thrilling 46-39 triumph over the UAB Blazers in Conference USA action in Huntington. Morris finished the game with 55 rushing yards, and he also threw for 309 yards and a touchdown on 26-of-36 tosses. Cody Slate hauled in six balls for 72 for Marshall (3-9, 3-5 CUSA), while Shawn Lauzon posted four catches for 58 yards and a score. Sam Hunt and Joseph Webb both saw time under center for UAB (2-10, 1-7), throwing for a combined 389 yards and two touchdowns on 27-of-50 pass attempts. Hunt also led the team with 64 rushing yards, while Webb finished second with 52 yards and a touchdown. Marshall kicked off the scoring with a Kelvin Turner four-yard touchdown run just over five minutes into the game. Just over three minutes later, the Herd extended its lead to 14-0 courtesy of a Chubb Small five-yard touchdown scamper. The Blazers put their first points on the board late in the opening quarter, when Mario Wright pulled down an 11-yard touchdown pass from Webb. With under three minutes left to play in the second quarter, Marshall scored two straight touchdowns to take a 28-7 lead at the break. Turner first rumbled four yards for a score and than Morris threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Lauzon. UAB struck first in the second half, as Swayze Waters nailed a 37-yard field goal just under four minutes into the period. Late in the third quarter, the Blazers made it a 28-18 game behind a 10-yard touchdown pass from Hunt to Wright and a successful two-point conversion attempt. The Herd, though, responded immediately, as Darius Marshall returned the ensuing kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown. With just 29 seconds left in the third quarter, the Blazers struck again, as Webb plunged one-yard for a touchdown. A Kevin Sanders 58-yard punt return for a touchdown less than two minutes into the final quarter pulled UAB within three points at 35-32. Anthony Binswanger nailed a 21-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter and Marshall led 38-32. With just over five minutes to play, the Blazers grabbed their first lead of the game, as Rashaud Slaughter rumbled four yards for a touchdown. Morris, though, led Marshall on an 11-play, 78-yard drive that he capped with a game-winning one-yard touchdown run with 1:07 remaining. The Herd tacked on a successful two-point conversion attempt to make the final score 46-39. Marshall improved to 3-0 all-time against UAB with the win, while the Blazers dropped their sixth game in a row to close out the season.
