Clemson, SC -- (Sports Network) - Clemson senior defensive tackle Rashaad Jackson is expected to be sidelined for about half of the upcoming season because of a knee injury.

Jackson suffered a torn quad tendon during Saturday's scrimmage and is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday.

"This is a big loss for our defense because Rashaad is not only a leader on the field, but off the field as well," said Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden.

Jackson has 16 1/2 career tackles for loss, more than any other active Tiger. He started 10 of Clemson's 13 games last year and finished with 37 tackles, including seven for losses.

The South Carolina native has played in 37 of Clemson's 38 games over the past three seasons.

Bowden said junior Jamie Cumbie will take Jackson's place in the starting lineup. Cumbie had 29 tackles in 13 games last year.
