NCAA Game Summary - Connecticut At Temple

Saturday, September 6, 2008

(Sports Network) - In a game influenced by terrible weather the Connecticut Huskies fought back to defeat the Temple Owls, 12-9, in overtime at Lincoln Financial Field.

Donald Brown was unstoppable for UConn (2-0), as the tailback rushed for 214 yards and one touchdown on 36 carries. Tyler Lorenzen struggled in the win, completing just 10-of-22 passes for only 86 yards. The signal caller also tossed an interception and was sacked once.

Adam DiMichele was the only offensive threat for Temple (1-1), as the quarterback threw for 170 yards, while adding another 60 yards on the ground. Unfortunately DiMichele only completed 11-of-28 passes, and also tossed two interceptions in the contest.

The first quarter saw just three points hit the scoreboard, as Temple's Jake Brownell connected on a 22-yard field goal.

Brownell struck again late in the second frame when the kicker nailed a 41- yard field goal, giving the Owls a 6-0 edge as the two teams went into the break.

Defense and sloppy weather reigned supreme in the third quarter, as neither offense was able to post any points.

The Huskies finally got on the scoreboard early in the fourth frame when Tony Ciaravino booted a 36-yard field goal.

UConn evened the score at six apiece when Ciaravino connected on a 37-yard field goal midway through the final quarter.

Neither team was able to break the tie in regulation, sending the contest into overtime.

Temple had the ball first in the extra session, and used a 21-yard field goal from Brownell to take a 9-6 lead.

However, the Huskies responded with a seven-yard touchdown run by Brown, giving UConn the thrilling, 12-9 win.
