Georgia DT Owens Suffers Season-Ending Knee Injury

Sunday, August 31, 2008

(Sports Network) - Georgia senior starting defensive tackle Jeff Owens will miss the remainder of the No. 1 Bulldogs' season after suffering a anterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee during a 45-21 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday.

Owens, who suffered the injury in the opening quarter, is scheduled for surgery September 9. The six-foot-three, 298-pounder from Sunrise, Florida will now redshirt the 2008 season after playing as a true freshman in 2005. Saturday was Owens' 26th start for the school and his streak of 15 consecutive starts will come to an end September 6 when Georgia hosts Central Michigan.
