GAME NOTES: Starting with Kansas State this weekend, the Texas A&M Aggies begin a stretch where they will play four of their next five games at home and that is big news for this struggling team. The Aggies have already hosted three opponents this season, but have surprisingly gone just 1-2 during that stretch. After defeating Army on September 27th for its lone home victory, Texas A&M hit the road and was buried at nationally-ranked Oklahoma State, 56-28, last weekend. With the setback, the Aggies dropped to 2-3 overall and 7-6 in Big 12 openers. As for KSU, it had no luck in its league opener either, dropping a similar 58-28 decision to nationally-ranked Texas Tech this past weekend. It was the second loss in the past three games by the Wildcats, who dipped to 3-2 overall and are ready to play four of their next five outings away from home. In terms of the all-time series, Texas A&M leads KSU by an 8-4 count and it has won the last five meetings dating back to 1997.

The Wildcats have made the most of their opportunities on offense this season and they are averaging a healthy 43.2 ppg behind a solid 412.2 total ypg. Quarterback Josh Freeman is in the midst of a simply tremendous campaign and the dual threat gunslinger has done it all for KSU. For the season, Freeman has thrown for 1,275 yards and 12 scores, in addition to rushing for 126 yards and eight more touchdowns. Freeman, who has been picked off just twice, is one touchdown pass shy of tying Ell Roberson for the school career record. In a lopsided loss to TTU last weekend, Freeman rushed for a pair of touchdowns while throwing for 170 yards and another score on 13-of-28 pass attempts. He was about the only bright spot for KSU, which was held to just 296 total yards in the loss. Brandon Banks logged three catches for 51 yards in that game and that was a disappointing effort for sure. On the season, Banks has fared much better and leads the Wildcats with 25 receptions for 514 yards and six touchdowns.

After giving up a total of 16 points in the first two games, the Wildcats have been torched for an average of 44.3 ppg over their last three outings. The defense is being abused for 192.4 ypg on the ground and 229.3 ypg through the air and if that wasn't bad enough, the unit has only forced five turnovers in the same amount of games. Facing an elite offense last weekend, the Wildcats were beat for 626 total yards by TTU, which threw for 490 yards and six scores. The defense gave up 33 first downs and forced only one turnover in the setback. Reggie Walker guided the team in defeat with 10 stops. For the season, Brandon Harold has been one of the few bright spots of this unit and he tops the roster with three sacks and 8.5 TFLs.

The Aggies have had their share of issues on offense this season and they come into the game averaging only 318.6 total ypg, including a mediocre 125.8 ypg on the ground. Hanging onto the ball has also been a problem for Texas A&M, which has committed 13 turnovers thus far. Last weekend, the Aggies turned the ball over five times, including two picks that were returned for touchdowns, as they were blown out by OSU. Quarterback Jerrod Johnson, making his second straight start in place of injured Stephen McGee, accounted for three of the team's miscues last weekend. He did however, throw for 218 yards and two scores. With McGee listed as questionable, Johnson could once again get the start and he will try to improve on his nine passing touchdowns for the year. Tailback Mike Goodson did his best to take some of the pressure off Johnson last weekend, as he rushed for 112 yards and a pair of scores. The squad's most explosive player, Goodson leads the team with 332 rushing yards and 20 receptions. He also has six total touchdowns (four rushing) to his credit.

Defensively, Texas A&M is limiting opposing clubs to 373.6 total ypg, but 225.0 of those ypg are coming on the ground and that is simply too much. Getting to the quarterback and creating miscues is also a weakness of this defense, as the Aggies have managed just five sacks and eight forced turnovers thus far. Facing a top tier offense last weekend, the Aggies allowed 401 total yards, including 215 via the run, in a 56-28 loss to OSU. It wasn't all the defenses fault though, as Texas A&M's offense allowed two scores and the special teams even surrendered a punt return for a touchdown. Still, the defense forced just one turnover and no sacks and that certainly didn't help. Von Miller paced the Aggies with seven stops and a fumble recovery. Matt Featherston was limited to just two stops, but despite that effort he still leads the team with 42 tackles for the season.

Both teams are coming off embarrassing efforts and each needs to rebound in a big way this weekend. KSU has appeared to be the more consistent team thus far and with its high-powered attack, it should be able to outlast a Texas A&M club that is still searching for its identity.
