Terps' Henderson Heading To NFL

Wednesday, January 2, 2008

(Sports Network) - Maryland linebacker Erin Henderson will forego his senior season to enter the NFL draft, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Henderson, the younger brother of Minnesota Vikings star linebacker E.J. Henderson, recorded 133 tackles a forced fumble and four fumble recoveries in 2007 and was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, presented annually to the nation's best college linebacker.

"After discussing the matter with my family in recent days, we felt like the time was right to take the next step in my playing career," Henderson said. "It was a difficult decision because I enjoyed my days at Maryland and playing in the college environment. I will certainly miss my teammates and coaches, but will always be a Terp."

The NFL draft will take place on April 26-27 in New York City.

"Erin has made a tremendous contribution to our program, both on and off the field," Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen said. "We wish him the best in the NFL."
