NCAA Game Summary - Miami-Florida At Virginia Tech

POSTED: 7:37 pm EST November 17, 2007

(Sports Network) - Branden Ore had a pair of touchdowns as the 10th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies crushed Miami-Florida, 44-14, at Lane Stadium.

Ore finished the game with 81 yards on 15 carries while Sean Glennon went 13- for-24 with 171 yards and a touchdown for the Hokies (9-2, 6-1 ACC), who have won their last three games.

Kyle Wright threw 21-for-36 for 215 yards, with a touchdown and an interception, and also added a rushing touchdown for the Hurricanes (5-6, 2-5), who have dropped three straight and five of six. Miami's running game was held to minus-two yards on 29 attempts, with Wright carrying the ball 15 times for minus-14 yards.

The Hokies grabbed the lead on their first possession of the game. After holding the Hurricanes to a three-and-out, the Hokies drove down the field and an eight-play, 61-yard drive was capped off when Ore punched the ball into the end zone from four yards out for a 7-0 lead less than five minutes in.

After again holding Miami to a three-and-out, Virginia Tech made it a 14-0 game. On 3rd-and-6, Glennon threw the ball up for Justin Harper, who made a leaping, one-handed catch in the left corner of the end zone from 15-yards out with a little over five minutes left in the first.

The Hurricanes offense was again stymied on the next possession as they were held to three plays for the third consecutive time. Virginia Tech got the ball back and drove to the Miami 13, but after an incompletion and two plays for losses, the team settled for a 40-yard field goal from Jud Dunlevy to make it 17-0 less than a minute into the second quarter.

Miami threatened to score later in the second quarter as the team had a 1st- and-goal at the three-yard line. However, the Hokies defense stood tall and stuffed Javarris James on four straight attempts and Miami turned the ball over on downs.

The Hurricanes, though, did get into the end zone with just 21 seconds left in the first half. After failing to score on the previous possession, Miami held Virginia Tech to a three-and-out and got the ball back at the Virginia Tech 30. Seven plays later, Wright's four-yard run made it a 17-7 contest.

Virginia Tech increased its lead on the first possession of the second half as a 44-yard field goal from Dunlevy made it a 20-7 game.

Miami, though, responded with a touchdown on the next touch to make it a one- score game. A 12-play, 53-yard drive was capped off when Wright hooked up with Leonard Hankerson from a yard out to make it a 20-14 game with 5:41 left in the third.

However, that was as close as the Hurricanes got as the Hokies turned the game into a blowout.

Virginia Tech marched 68 yards in less than three minutes after the Miami touchdown and increased its lead to 27-14 on Ore's seven-yard touchdown run.

Victor Harris picked off Wright close to midfield and brought the ball down to the Miami 20, which set up Dunlevy's 37-yard field goal for a 30-14 advantage with 28 seconds left in the third.

After holding the Hurricanes to a three-and-out, the Hokies went on a five- play, 65-yard drive that finished when Carlton Weatherford plunged into the end zone from a yard out to make it 37-14 with 11:33 to play. The big play of the drive occurred right before the touchdown as Glennon hooked up with Josh Hyman for 41 yards to set up a 1st-and-goal at the one-yard line.

Jahre Cheeseman's two-yard touchdown run with 5:48 to play in the game made it a 44-14 game to cap the scoring.
