He also ran for a touchdown. Wes Neiman hauled in 11 passes for 128 yards, as NMSU dropped its fifth game in a row. The Aggies jumped out quickly in this one, as Holbrook threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Kenneth Buckley just over a minute into the game. The Bulldogs' Clint Stitser nailed a 20-yard yard field goal a few minutes later and he hit a 24-yard attempt late in the frame to pull the team within a point at the end of one quarter of play. NMSU, however, countered just 11 seconds into the second quarter, as Jeremiah Williams rumbled three yards for a score. The extra-point attempt, though, was blocked and returned 95 yards by Fresno State's Damion Owens for two points, putting the score at 13-8. Midway through the period, the Bulldogs took their first lead, 16-13, with a Brandstater one-yard touchdown run and a successful two-point conversion try. Mathews scampered seven yards for a score late in the first half and Fresno State carried a 23-13 lead into the break. The Bulldogs added to their lead midway through the third quarter when Harding scored on a six-yard run. Paul Young hit a 24-yard field goal for NMSU late in the frame and the Aggies trailed 30-16 heading into the final period. With just over five minutes to go, Holbrook scored on a one-yard run for the Aggies. NMSU, though, would get no closer in the 30-23 setback. Fresno State racked up 468 yards of total offense in the game, with 263 of those yards coming on the ground.
