Tar Heels' All-Purpose Threat Lost For Season

Chapel Hill, NC -- (Sports Network) - North Carolina senior wide receiver Brandon Tate will miss the remainder of the season because of a torn ligaments in his right knee.Tate was hurt during the first quarter of Saturday's game against Notre Dame and tests revealed both a torn anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligament. He is expected to undergo surgery later this week. With his collegiate career at an end, Tate finishes as the NCAA's all-time leader in combined kick return yards with 3,523. He was leading the ACC in all-purpose yards this season with 194.6 per game heading into Saturday's action. On Saturday, Tate accounted for just nine yards on a punt return before the injury. He finished the season with 376 receiving yards, 305 kickoff return yards, 158 punt return yards and 143 rushing yards in six games for the 18th- ranked Tar Heels, who are off to a 5-1 start after the 29-24 win over Notre Dame.
