NCAA Game Summary - Maryland At NC State

Saturday, November 24, 2007

(Sports Network) - Lance Ball ran for 78 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Maryland Terrapins to a commanding 37-0 win over NC State in ACC action at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Also scoring twice on the ground for the Terps (6-6, 3-5 ACC) as they became bowl eligible was Keon Lattimore who gained 34 yards on 13 carries in the triumph. Quarterback Chris Turner connected on 19-of-24 passing for 206 yards.

The Wolfpack (5-7, 3-5) was paced by the quarterback tandem of Daniel Evans and Harrison Beck who combined to hit 26-of-45 for 240 yards and an interception in the shutout loss.

The only scoring of the first quarter came courtesy of Obi Egekeze's 40-yard field goal. Maryland scored on four straight possessions bridging the first and second quarters as Lattimore made his way into the end zone from a yard out in the second frame.

Ball then posted touchdown runs of 15 and two yards just three and a half minutes apart to provide the visitors with a 24-0 advantage at the break.

In the third quarter Egekeze made good on a pair of field goals from 34 and 30 yards, while Lattimore's five-yard touchdown run in the fourth capped the days festivities and gave the Terps their first shutout victory since 2004.

The Wolfpack, who were held scoreless for the first time since 1995 and had the ACC's longest span of games without being shutout (150 games), gained a mere 10 yards rushing on 16 attempts. NC State converted just 1-of-13 on third down and compiled only 250 yards of total offense.

"It is a tough day for the seniors who have meant a lot to the program," said NC State head coach Tom O'Brien after the game. "We almost got it back after digging ourselves a hole early in the season."

"We have to look to the future now," OBrien noted. "We have to evaluate some things and some personnel and go from there. I think we will start afresh. We learned a lot about the players here and hopefully they learned from us."
