NCAA Game Summary - UL-Monroe At Auburn

Saturday, August 30, 2008

(Sports Network) - Chris Todd threw for 70 yards and a score on 9- of-18 passing and Robert Dunn recorded a 66-yard punt return TD as 10th-ranked Auburn pounded Louisiana-Monroe, 34-0, in the season opener for both schools at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Brad Lester and Chris Slaughter added scores for the Tigers (1-0). Ben Tate rushed 13 times for 115 yards and Michael Goggans registered a defensive touchdown on a fumble recovery.

"The effort was good. We found out a little bit more of what we need to do on offense," said Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville. "We didn"t get the ball up the field very well. We tried to force some things. You win games on defense and special teams if you play hard."

Kinsmon Lancaster completed 20-of-38 passes for 136 yards for the Warhawks (0-1). Zeek Zacharie led the receiving corps with eight catches for 61 yards.

Auburn struck for a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

After the Tigers' first possession did not yield points, UL-Monroe got the ball after a punt on its own 14-yard-line. On the first play from scrimmage, Lancaster was sacked by Antonio Coleman and the ball came loose at the nine.

Goggans was there to snatch the loose ball and return it nine yards for a score.

"I expected him [Coleman] to be there," said Lancaster. "I just need to get rid of the ball next time."

Later in the opening period, Dunn fielded a Scott Love punt at the Auburn 34- yard line and broke free for a 66-yard touchdown.

An eight-play, 63-yard drive in the second quarter netted a 33-yard field goal from Wes Byrum and a 17-point advantage.

The Tigers put 10 more points on the board in the third quarter on Lester's three-yard run and Byrum's 19-yard make.

Todd found Slaughter for a three-yard TD pass with 6:49 left in regulation, which capped the rout.

Game Notes:

Auburn has won all seven meetings between the schools...Kodi Burns started under center for Auburn but completed just 4-of-9 passes for 15 yards...The Tigers face Southern Miss next Saturday, while the Warhawks travel to Arkansas also next Saturday.
