NCAA Game Summary - Southern Vs. Grambling State

New Orleans, LA -- (Sports Network) - Bryant Lee completed 12-of-18 passes for 120 yards with one touchdown and one interception to guide Southern University past Grambling State, 22-13, at the Bayou Classic. Darren Coates rushed for 107 yards and a TD on 20 carries and amassed 46 yards on four receptions with another score for Southern (8-3, 6-3 SWAC), and Gerard Landry caught five passes for 72 yards. Clevan White had five receptions for 36 yards. Brandon Landers completed 22-of-36 passes for 192 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions for Grambling State (8-3, 8-1). Clyde Edwards caught eight passes for 84 yards and one score, while Reginald Jackson had 46 yards receiving on six receptions. Frank Warren collected 49 yards rushing on 14 carries. Southern claimed a 14-7 lead with 1:50 left in the first quarter when Lee connected with Coates for a 10-yard score, capping a 10-play, 80-yard drive. Southern then recorded a safety late in the third quarter, and a Josh Duran 23-yard field goal pushed the Jaguars lead to 19-7 with 8:18 remaining in the fourth quarter. Grambling State cut the lead to 19-13, on Edwards' 27-yard touchdown reception with 5:29 left. The extra point was blocked. Duran's 37-yard field goal sealed the win for Southern with 1:19 remaining. Coates and Walker each scored on one-yard runs in the opening quarter.
