NCAA Game Summary - Pittsburgh At Syracuse

(Sports Network) - LeSean McCoy and LaRod Stephens-Howling combined for 220 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in Pittsburgh's 34-24 win over the Syracuse Orange in Big East action at the Carrier Dome.

Bill Stull completed 17-of-29 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers (3-1, 1-0 Big East), winners of three straight.

For Syracuse (1-4, 0-1), Curtis Brinkley ran for 119 yards, while Cameron Dantley threw for 137 yards and two TDs.

Conor Lee gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead by booting a 40-yard field goal at the 10:37 mark of the opening quarter.

But Michael Holmes returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a score to put the pressure back on Pitt.

Later in the first quarter, Dantley tossed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Donte Davis to give the Orange a 14-3 cushion.

Lee kicked a 43-yarder with 12:10 remaining in the second quarter to make it a 14-6 game.

Stull's two-yard touchdown pass to Dorin Dickerson drew the Panthers to within 14-12 with four minutes remaining in the half.

Syracuse kicker Patrick Shadle connected on a 25-yarder as time expired in the first half.

The Orange opened the second half with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Dantley to Van Chew to take a 24-13 lead.

Lee kicked a 44-yarder midway through the third quarter to make it a 24-16 game.

The Panthers took over in the fourth quarter. Stephens-Howling scored on a nine-yard run with 14:26 to play. Stull connected with Jonathan Baldwin on the two-point conversion to knot the score at 24 apiece.

Lee kicked a 25-yard field goal with nine minutes to play, and Stephens- Howling added an insurance touchdown on a three-yard run with three minutes remaining.

Pitt scored on all four of its second-half possessions, and finished with a 16-minute edge in time of possession.

Tony Pike threw for 272 yards and a pair of touchdowns, as 16th-ranked Cincinnati captured the outright Big East title with a 30-10 victory over Syracuse at Nippert Stadium.
