Charlottesville, VA -- (Sports Network) - The University of Virginia has exercised the option on head football coach Al Groh's contract through the 2011 season."This is an indication of confidence on my part and the university's part in the work that Al and his staff have done," said athletic director Craig Littlepage. "I think it's also a good indication of the confidence that we have in the future direction of the football program, both in the short term, that is, in the upcoming bowl game, as well as in the long-term future. I'm very pleased we're at this point." Groh, who is in his seventh year as head coach of the Cavaliers, guided his team to a 9-3 record in the regular season. The team also went 6-2 in the ACC. Since taking over for George Welsh as head coach in 2001, Groh has led Virginia to 51 wins and four bowl appearances.
