NCAA Game Summary - Utah State At Troy State

Aaron Leak threw three touchdown passes to lead the Troy State Trojans past the Utah State Aggies, 49-21, in a Sun Belt Conference matchup at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.

Leak completed 9-of-10 passes for 120 yards as the Trojans (3-2, 1-1 SBC) snapped a two-game losing streak.

Jason Samples was Leak's favorite receiver with six catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns.

DeWhitt Betterson led the Troy State ground game as he ran for 161 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries.

Utah State (2-3, 1-1) was led by Travis Cox who completed 16-of-33 passes for 222 yards with a touchdown, but was also guilty of three interceptions.

Troy State dominated the first half as it racked up 35 unanswered points. In the first quarter Jermaine Richardson scored on a 10-yard scamper and Leak threw a 13-yard touchdown toss to Samples to give the Trojans a 14-0 lead with 5:53 left in the frame.

The onslaught continued in the second quarter as Leak connected with Joe Munson for a seven-yard touchdown pass, Leak threw an eight-yard scoring pass to Samples and Leodis McKelvin returned an interception 71 yards for a score to give Troy State a commanding 35-0 lead with just 47 seconds left to play in the half.

Betterson kept the pressure on the Aggies when he scored on a nine-yard touchdown run to increase the Troy State lead to 42-0 with 9:56 remaining in the third quarter.

The Aggies finally got into the ball game and racked up 21 unanswered points of their own when Raymond Hicks scored on a 42-yard touchdown pass from Cox, Kevin Robinson returned a punt 90 yards for a score and Chris Forbes found the end zone on a one-yard run to cut the Trojans lead to 42-21 early in the fourth quarter.

Betterson put the final nail in the coffin when he scampered 44 yards for a touchdown to bring the score to its final of 49-21 with 4:48 left in the ball game.

Troy State accumulated 358 yards of total offense in the contest while the Aggies had 342 yards.
