McDowell also rushed for 62 yards on 17 carries for Troy (5-4), which won its second straight game. DeWhitt Betterson also put forth a solid effort, rushing for 67 yards and a score on 23 carries in the winning cause.

Jared Allen paced FAU (6-2) in defeat, completing 8-of-12 pass attempts for 122 yards. His main target was Dantson Dareus, who pulled down four passes for 60 yards.

FAU scored the only points of the first quarter with a Mark Myers 44-yard field goal.

A Jason Samples 42-yard touchdown pass from McDowell late in the second quarter gave the Trojans a 7-3 lead at the break.

Troy extended its lead to 10-3 with a Greg Whibbs 22-yard field goal midway through the third quarter.

The Owls countered quickly with a Myers 36-yard field goal.

The Trojans, however, refused to give in and took a 17-6 lead with a Betterson two-yard touchdown run with under a minute left in the third quarter.

A 64-yard punt return for a touchdown by Leodis McKelvin in the fourth quarter put the final touches on the Trojans' 24-6 victory.

Troy's defense was sensational in the contest, holding FAU to just 260 total yards, including a dismal 12 rushing yards on 33 attempts.
