Friday, November 23, 2007
Fort Collins, CO -- (Sports Network) - Caleb Hanie threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Colorado State Rams to a 36-28 win over the Wyoming Cowboys in Mountain West Conference action at Hughes Stadium. Hanie converted 16-of-22 passing for the Rams (3-9, 2-6 MWC), tossed one interception and survived four sacks in the victory. Gartrell Johnson added 103 yards and a score on the ground as well for CSU. The Cowboys (5-7, 2-6), losers of four straight and six of the last seven outings to close out the regular season, were led by Wynel Seldon who scored a pair of rushing touchdowns on just six carries. Quarterback Karsten Sween converted 20-of-33 passing for 204 yards, but he failed to get the ball into the end zone through the air. Colorado State took the opening drive 61 yards on eight plays, resulting in a 29-yard field goal by Jason Smith. Wyoming responded later in the period as Seldon found his way into the end zone from a yard out to give the visitors a 7-3 advantage. The teams then traded scores the rest of the first half as Johnson scored on a 31-yard run for the Rams and Devin Moore hit the end zone for the Pokes from a yard away to cap an 11-play, 80-yard drive. With just over three minutes to play in the half Hanie combined with Luke Roberts on a 29-yard scoring strike to give the Rams a 17-14 edge at the break. Coming out of the half it was Smith again with a 41-yard field goal for the home team, followed by a three-yard TD run by Johnson to make the score 27-14. Refusing to give up that easily, the ensuing kickoff was subsequently returned 98 yards by Moore to again cut the deficit to six points at 27-21. Seldon's two-yard TD run early in the fourth put the Pokes ahead by a single point, but from there Wyoming stalled and allowed Colorado State to score the final 10 points of the contest on an 18-yard TD run by Michael Myers and a 39- yard field goal by Smith to lock up the victory. CSU controlled the ball for more than 34 minutes on the day, generating 397 yards of offense in the process.
