NCAA Game Summary - U-C-F At U-A-B

Saturday, November 10, 2007

(Sports Network) - Kevin Smith ran for a school-record 320 yards and four touchdowns to lead the UCF Golden Knights to a 45-31 victory over the UAB Blazers in a Conference USA matchup at Legion Field.

Smith carried the ball 41 times in the UCF' (7-3, 5-1 C-USA) victory, leaving quarterback Kyle Israel with very little to do. Israel completed 11-of-18 pass attempts for just 91 yards and a touchdown. The Knights have now won four games in a row.

Joseph Webb threw for 156 yards and three touchdowns to lead UAB (2-8, 1-5), and Frantrell Forrest grabbed six passes for 71 yards and a score.

Jake Howard connected on a 44-yard field goal early in the first quarter, and the Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

The Blazers responded minutes later with a three-yard plunge by Sam Hunt to take a 7-3 lead.

Smith regained the UCF advantage midway through the period on a two-yard run.

UAB took a 14-10 lead late in the frame, as Webb found Forrest for a 27-yard touchdown.

Smith found the end zone again midway through the second quarter, a three-yard dash that gave the Knights a 17-14 advantage.

The contest went into the half knotted up at 17 apiece, following a 30-yard field goal by Swayze Waters late in the period.

Smith scored for the third time on the night with an eight-yard scamper early in the third quarter, giving UCF a 24-17 lead.

Webb tied the contest yet again, midway through the frame, hooking up with Mario Wright for a 13-yard touchdown.

UCF retook the lead late in the period with a 51-yard run by Curtis Francis.

Israel extended the Knights advantage early in the fourth quarter with a four-yard toss to Rocky Ross.

The Blazers pulled to within seven late in the period, as Webb completed a four-yard touchdown pass to Jeffrey Anderson.

But the Knights put the game out of reach less than a minute later with a 41- yard touchdown run by Smith.

With a 20-yard scamper in the opening quarter, Smith broke the school-record for rushing yards in a single season with 1,768 yards.
