Former Lake Wales Athlete Injured In Theme Park Accident

TAMPA, Fla. -- Maikon Bonani, a University of South Florida kicker and employee of Busch Gardens, fell 35 feet from the Skyride attraction on Saturday. Bonani fell when the ride took off while he was checking to see that a door was secured.

Newschief.com reports that Bonani was a three-sport athlete at Lake Wales High School. The soccer, football and tennis player was also valedictorian of his senior class. The USF sophomore was the starting place kicker for the Bulls.

Bonani was hospitalized in fair condition. He's expected to recover, but it's expected that he will miss the upcoming football season.
