Judge Sets Bond For Accused Ambien Rapist

Orange County's accused Ambien rapist remains in jail even though a judge set a bond of $25,300 Tuesday.

Yehisson Acevedo is accused of raping a woman who had taken the sleeping pill Ambien and says she doesn't remember anything.

Acevedo stood shackled in chains inside an Orange County courtroom where a judge granted the bond. Police accuse Acevedo of raping a woman in July after the two met at an Orlando 7-Eleven.

She was on a generic form of the sleeping aid Ambien at the time and says she drank an entire bottle of wine. She doesn't remember much of what happened that night. She also told police Acevedo stole electronics from her place; he says she gave them to him. He also says the sex was consensual.

The judge ordered Acevedo to home confinement with exceptions in travel to church, work and the grocery store. He's allowed to visit his two kids as well. He can't have contact with the victim or possess any weapons.

Acevedo's attorney said in court that he poses no threat to the public. Last month after his arrest, he did a lot of talking as police led him to a cruiser.

"I didn't do it. I didn't rape her," Acevedo said.

In court, he said he couldn't afford an attorney. It is unclear whether he can afford to pay the bond. If Acevedo posts 10 percent of the $25,300 bond, he can be released.

Drinking alcohol, and taking Ambien is known to increase the chances of a person experiencing the extreme side-effects of the drug.

The side-effects include sleep-driving, hallucinations and memory loss. In 2008, the Food and Drug Administration changed the warning labels on the drug and the generic versions to make sure people clearly understand the risks.
