Woman's Naked Body Found By Man Walking Dog

Posted: 12:36 pm EDT August 25, 2009Updated: 6:31 pm EDT August 25, 2009

Someone dumped a woman's body on an old construction site in Fruitland Park. A man walking their dog in Fruitland Park on Urick Street and Thomas Avenue (see map) made the gruesome discovery Tuesday.

Fruitland Park police officers are following up on leads and trying to figure out who was in the area Monday night. The Fruitland Park chief of police identified the woman as 35-year-old Cindy Engleking.

Police and Lake County deputies are trying to figure out who may have dumped the naked woman's body in a construction site Monday night. Residents say it's a popular spot for homeless people and drug activity.

"No one has been working. You see it grown up and that's what makes it easy," resident Jim Hill said.

The piece of land has been sitting for months. During the housing boom there were plans for a new subdivision, but now with the recession the property is in foreclosure. Residents say they are not surprised that a body was found in the area.

A man was walking his dog in the abandoned subdivision and, as he walking, he saw a woman's body lying on the side of the road. The police chief would not release many details, but he did say there may have been some type of struggle. There were no clothes or identification near the woman.

Cara O'Conner lives less than one mile away. She is worried a killer is on the loose. Her son, as well as other children, frequently bike in the area.

"Now I'm even more terrified. That is horrible. That could be a child or that could be a mom like me, a singe mom with two kids," she said.

The police chief isn't sure when the woman died, but believe she was killed in the area. He is asking for the public's help. If anyone saw something, please call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
