LAKE COUNTY, Fla. -- A meth lab bust led to five arrests in Lake County. Deputies made the bust at a home along Maggie Jones Road in Paisley (see map) overnight.Amy Hall has lived in Paisley for three years and says she has always suspected something was out of place at the home on Maggie Jones Road. Thursday, it became a crime scene."I'm glad it got busted," Hall said.Early Thursday morning, Lake County sheriff's deputies swarmed the home and arrested five people for allegedly running a meth lab out of the barn in the backyard. The six-month investigation got started with the work of their undercover agents."At least one lives here at the residence. We don't know about the others. They were apparently caught in the act of making meth when our detectives moved in," said Jim Vachon, Lake County Sheriff's Office.Detectives said they located a small amount of finished product, along with quantities of a liquid that will be sent off for testing. Equipment used in the manufacture of methamphetamine was also seized.Dangerous meth labs are nothing new in Lake County. This was the 44th meth lab busted so far this year, up from 16 for all of last year. Deputies say the people making the labs are both repeat offenders and new users.Meth is becoming more common, because it's easy to make and to sell. The street value is relatively cheap, about $80 per gram. Hall is just glad this operation is shut down for business."You have little kids running around this neighborhood and it's just really scary to see that this is so close to my house," she said. One of the suspects is being charged with battery on a law enforcement officer after a deputy says he was kicked when he showed up on scene. The names of the suspects and other charges have not been released.
