PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. -- A proposed new law could ban a popular method of fishing along the Space Coast. Under a new proposal, bottom fishing could be banned for an entire year. That includes snapper, grouper, grunts and amber jack. The ban would cover the shores of Florida up to North Carolina, from 90 feet to 200 miles offshore. The goal is to help repopulate the fish population. However, deep sea fishing is a way of life for many people and businesses, and the ban could greatly impact lives."You're going to put these people out of business; so it's going to be a catastrophic event," said David Heil, Fishing Rights Alliance. There are two proposals on the table, one to ban snapper fishing alone and another to ban bottom fishing altogether. There will be a public hearing about the ban in Port Canaveral on November 11.
