Church Damaged By Fire In Marion County

Posted: 11:57 am EDT October 21, 2009Updated: 12:49 pm EDT October 21, 2009

Fire destroyed part of a church in Marion County on Tuesday night. The fire damaged the inside of the rec building at the First Baptist Church in Summerfield.

The fire completely destroyed the kitchen area around 9:00pm. It took 55 firefighters more than an hour to get it under control.

The pastor said the church will get past it.

"Things happen and things happen for a reason. We just need to focus on what we will do in the future. We got some cleaning up to do, a little bit of re-building to do. But it's not going to stop this church,” Pastor Dr. Paul Howell said.

No one was inside the building when the fire started. Investigators don't know yet what caused it.
