Mom Allegedly Watches Child Smother Son

A 23-year-old Titusville mother was arrested Thursday for allegedly watching her two-year-old son try to smother her 11-month-old baby son.

"Christina, why didn't you stop your two-year-old?” WFTV reporter Jeff Deal asked.

Christina McIntyre didn't say much when police walked her out of headquarters in handcuffs Thursday evening. She's under arrest for the attempted murder of her child.

"It's just unimaginable how anyone could have this kind of motivation, it's extremely disturbing," Lt. Todd Hutchinson of the Titusville Police Department said.

Police say the 23-year-old single mother is accused of watching her two-year-old boy smother her 11-month-old boy with a blanket and a bean bag chair at her home earlier in the month.

Authorities don't know if she instructed the two-year-old to smother the 11-month-old or not. But they say she knew the child wasn't breathing and later admitted she did nothing to try to save him.

"How could you let your own child stop breathing and do nothing?" Hutchinson said.

Police say McIntyre was apparently distraught, thought she couldn't handle her kids anymore. She told investigators she thought her life would be easier if the child died.

That way she could go back to work and put the two-year-old in daycare. McIntyre eventually called 911. Paramedics showed up and revived the infant.

Now, both boys have been placed with the Department of Children and Families.

McIntyre headed to jail facing serious charges. She could only utter one short phrase about her children.

"Just that I love them very much," she told Eyewitness News.

Police say the 11-month-old is expected to be fine.

The boys' father lives out of state.

McIntyre is in the Brevard County jail on no bond.
