A Sumter County man is facing animal cruelty charges for tying a pony to a tree and leaving it there for weeks. The Sumter County Humane Society said it was so neglected that it had to be put to sleep.

Investigators say Winton Rowell admitted to the crime. He was arrested on his property in Bushnell.

Rowell also had several dogs, cats and chickens that were removed from the property.
