Monorail Problems At Disney, Again

A potential mechanical problem forced Walt Disney World to shut down a monorail train for the second time this week. Disney officials confirmed to Eyewitness News that a train full of passengers had to be towed into the nearest station Tuesday night.

The problem comes just two days after a power failure stranded hundreds of people on the monorail system for three hours on Sunday.

A Disney spokesperson said Tuesday night's issue had nothing to do with Sunday's power failure. The train was transporting passengers Tuesday between the transportation center and the Magic Kingdom when a computer detected a potential mechanical problem.

The problem is just one out of many issues this year with the monorail system. In September, smoke filled a monorail platform following an electrical short. The biggest issue was in July, when two trains collided after a problem with switching trains on different tracks; the crash killed a monorail pilot, 21-year-old Austin Wuennenburg.

Disney officials say the train will be evaluated to see if any problems exist before it's put back into service.
