Tebow Pro-Life Super Bowl Ad Causing Stir

The NFL's championship game is still two weeks away, but some women's groups are already protesting one of the commercials scheduled to air during the Super Bowl.

University of Florida football star Tim Tebow and his mother will be featured in a commercial sponsored by the Christian group, Focus on the Family.

Protesters say the ad will likely promote an anti-abortion message.

Tebow makes no bones about it, confirming that is the message, and he says he is speaking his mind in a Super Bowl ad shot at Orlando's Full Sail University in Orlando. However, pro-abortion rights groups would prefer the star quarterback stick to throwing footballs.

Tim Tebow and his mother find themselves at the center of some controversy over a Super Bowl ad that will almost certainly deliver a pro-life message to audiences.

The devout Christian quarterback recently suggested that sports are a great venue for openly exercising free speech.

"Unfortunately, in today's society not too many athletes tend to do that. You know, stand for something," said Tebow at a Senior Bowl press conference.

However, a number of women's groups clearly do not like what Tebow stands for, or the fact that he has a huge national audience of admirers.

Jehmu Greene of The Women's Media Center said in a released statement, "An ad that uses sports to divide rather than unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year."

The National Organization for Women called the ad "extraordinarily offensive and demeaning."

Meanwhile, Tebow says his mother refused an abortion despite significant medical complications while she was pregnant with the Gator star.

He says her strong beliefs and his religion make the Focus on the Family ad the right thing to do.

"Some people won't agree with it, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe and I'm never shy about that," said Tebow.

Focus on the Family, the Christian group that created the ad, has released few details about the message in the commercial. But you can bet the controversy surrounding it now will only bring more attention to whatever message is conveyed in the commercial.
