Known Palm Bay Criminal Caught On Dash Cam During Chase

Dash cam video was released of a desperate man in an out-of-control car who is a known criminal and a notoriously bad driver. He was so desperate to escape police in Palm Bay, he actually tried to ram a squad car.

Palm Bay police said 22-year-old Herbert Sharp should never have been on the road. But, as caught on dash-cam video, there he was in and out of traffic on US-1 leading police on a chase of up to 85mph.

"Here, he makes an abrupt u-turn and weaves through more cars and hits his brakes. At one point, the officer thought he was coming right at him," said Officer Kevin Morris, Palm Bay Police Department. "This is an individual who should not have been out of jail, much less on the road. This is his third arrest in a month and a half just for our agency."

Although you can't see it on the video, Sharp tried to sideswipe the officer's car. Amazingly, no one was hit. The tag was called in and officers were able to set up a perimeter around Sharp's house where he was finally caught.

Sharp had his first appearance Thursday. He's facing numerous charges plus nine tickets.

Police said Sharp should have been classified as an habitual traffic offender. He also has a long criminal history that includes drug and burglary charges.
