Man Dressed As Woman Opens Fire Inside Wal-Mart

Sunday, November 30, 2008 – updated: 10:35 am EST December 1, 2008

Orlando police said they found a car that a man dressed like a woman used to get away in after an attempted robbery at a busy Wal-Mart on South Kirkman Road (see map) Sunday morning. A surveillance camera inside the Wal-Mart caught images of the man wearing a gray wig and a flowered dress.

An eyewitness said the man approached a register inside the store, pulled out a gun and fired shots into the ceiling.

"It looked actually like an elderly woman and, when he got to register, I saw a gun go up and two shots go off," said eyewitness Angie Fincannon.

Shoppers said everyone inside the store ran for the exits, which caused a stampede. Several people were checked out by paramedics, but no one was injured.

"My chest was hurting so bad I felt like I was having a heart attack. The paramedic kept telling me my vital signs were going bad," said Fincannon.

Officers were investigating the vehicle Monday and looking for any clues in their effort to find the gunman. Police have not said if the suspect got away with any money.
