ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Not everyone likes a revised plan that could build a new Evans High School campus in Ocoee. Many people who live near the proposed site don't want the school in their backyard. It was evident that the saga between the Orange County School Board and the people that live near the Evans High School Freshman Center on Apopka-Vineland road would continue Wednesday. It appears the school district and Orange County commissioners have worked out a deal that would move the rest of the high school campus to the rural neighborhood in Ocoee. The deal would use 35 fewer acres than the original plan the county proposed, including three-story classroom buildings and fewer parking spaces. It would also keep the football and baseball fields at the old campus located four miles east on Silver Star Road. The school board is hoping the plan would be to everyone's liking, especially those who live near the proposed property that have been fighting the plan for months."If you're going to put anything in the rural settlement, it has to keep with the character of the rural settlement and when you look at it, rural only means one thing," said Ed Miscka, a resident. The plan still needs to be approved by the Orange County commission which may not take a vote until this coming summer. If approved, the new campus could be completed as soon as August of 2010.
