Professor Wrestling: WWE 'Vengeance' Results
Batista Tops Triple H In The 'Cell'
Updated: 12:27 am EDT June 27, 2005
Listen up!Class is in session. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, except when it's news about "Vengeance," WWE's latest and greatest pay-per-view. Want to know what happened? Well, you just hit the jackpot, tigers. Enough yakkin: here's the stuff!Challenge Match: Victoria vs. Christy
What Should Happen: Since when is Christy a wrestler? Oh, that's right, it doesn't matter. It's all eye candy, not to mention an ad for the next WWE Diva Search. If it were my call, I'd make this one short and sweet and let Christy get the pin. Quickly.
What Will Happen: Christy takes it. Bet the mortgage.
What Did Happen: On second thought, never bet on wrestling. It's fixed! Victoria won. But at least it was short. And yes, she cheated, holding the ropes for leverage.
Challenge Match: Edge vs. Kane
What Should Happen: Giving Edge that future title shot was actually a genius move by WWE scriptwriters. Edge can lose every match and still not look too weak -- he always has that ace in the hole until he uses it. In this one, I would let Kane manhandle Edge for being so smarmy with his almost-wife, Lita.
What Will Happen: Kane wins despite outside interference from the redhead.
What Did Happen: Kane won despite outside interference from Lita and Snitsky.
WWE Intercontinental Title Match: Carlito vs. Shelton Benjamin
What Should Happen: At first, I didn't think Carlito was too cool. But he's really growing on me, as is his goofy hair. If it were up to me, I'd let him keep the belt as long as possible only because it's way more entertaining to see a chicken heel cheat his way to victory. Benjamin is great in the ring, but he is light years behind Carlito in terms of developing a personality I care about. He needs to chase Carlito for a few months before he gets his title back. What Will Happen: Carlito cheats to win, and it will be cool. What Did Happen: Carlito got a fistfull of Shelton's tights, and won. Cool.Challenge Match: Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels
What Should Happen: Angle made the Heartbreak Kid tap out at "Wrestlemania 21," but will lose here. That sets up a rubber match at "SummerSlam."
What Will Happen: HBK gets in a little sweet chin music, and Angle falls.
What Did Happen: HBK hit Angle with his patented move, and the Olympic legend went down. Fabulous match. Look for HBK-Angle III at "SummerSlam."
WWE Championship Match: John Cena vs. Christian vs. Chris Jericho
What Should Happen: Check the record. It wasn't long ago that your Professor -- me -- urged Vince McMahon to give Christian some type of championship push. Well, Captain Charisma is doing great (especially in his interviews) and if I were in charge, I'd have him win the belt -- and hoof that belt back to "Smackdown!" via the draft lottery. And Vince, thanks for reading.
What Will Happen: I'm going out on a limb: Christian wins. Cena is stunned, Jericho goes nuts.
What Did Happen: Jericho didn't win, but neither did Christian. Cena retains his belt after pinning Captain Charisma. Vince, it would have been better had you listened to me. Christian is a rising star. Give him a chance at real gold!World Heavyweight Championship Match: Batista vs. Triple H
What Should Happen: This is a "Hell In The Cell" match, Hunter's specialty. But I'm not convinced Batista will lose. Vince's son-in-law doesn't have to be champion right now, and having Batista win this one solidifies him as a tough champion. Of course, if the PPV buyrate is low -- Batista's days with the belt might be numbered. What Will Happen: The blood will flow, and Batista will retain. What Did Happen: Batista pins Hunter to keep the belt. The smart money says he'll go to "Smackdown!" this week, and Cena will battle Hunter on "Raw" for the WWE Championship. That's it. My picks for WWE "Vengeance." As I mentioned Friday, you have to be astonished at my accuracy. In this case, I was four for six. That, kids, is a major league batting average. But what did you expect? Now scram!Class dismissed.(Professor Wrestling is a masked employee of Internet Broadcasting. He urges you to run, not walk, to buy Ric Flair's autobiography, "To Be The Man," now out in paperback. It's so incredibly great, he read it in one sitting. Wooooooooo!!!!)
