Professor Wrestling: The TNA 'No Surrender' Recap
Raven, Abyss Top Card With 'Dog Collar' Match
Listen up!Class is in session. Today, we're going to recap Total Nonstop Action Wrestling's "No Surrender" pay-per-view. I have to admit, watching TNA exclusively on the Internet these past few weeks has been a bit of a pain, but I tip my mask to the organization for coming up with a solution to somehow airing "Impact!" (TNA's deal with Fox Sports ran out a while back). All signs point to TNA landing on Spike TV once WWE moves "Raw!" over to USA again, but it looks like that won't happen for a few months. As for Sunday's PPV, here's the stuff:Super X Challenge Match: Sonjay Dutt vs. Shark Boy vs. Elix Skipper vs. Mikey Batts
What Should Happen: This match is a kickoff to an X-division tournament, with the winner getting a title shot against the champ. Sounds like an excuse to give Shark Boy a push.
What Will Happen: Shark Boy. Bet the mortgage.
What Did Happen: Hope you didn't bet the mortgage. Dutt won.
X-Division Title Match: Petey Williams vs. Christopher Daniels
What Should Happen: It really doesn't get much better than this. Both of these guys are just great. I can't say enough good things about them. If I were booking things, though, I'd go with Daniels, with Williams giving chase for the belt for a while. I like this feud. What Will Happen: Daniels with the clean pin in a show-stopper.What Did Happen: Daniels takes it. Nice twist at the end. Williams was tossed some brass knuckles to brain Daniels. But Daniels had a pair of his own and hit Williams with them. That led to the final pin.Challenge Match: Chris Sabin vs. Samoa Joe
What Should Happen: Like the match above, a treat for the fans. You know these two will go all out and put on a great X-Division match. If I were in charge, the undefeated Samoa Joe would get the pin over Sabin.
What Will Happen: The thrilling Samoa Joe takes it.
What Did Happen: Joe wins a great one, making Sabin pass out from his body scissors sleeper move.
Challenge Match: A.J. Styles vs. Sean Waltman
What Should Happen: Two great workers hook up in a grudge match. What should happen is that Styles makes quick work of Waltman. On paper, this is a no-brainer. Styles is too young, too polished to lose.
What Will Happen: Styles wins cleanly. He's the franchise, to be treated with respect.
What Did Happen: A pretty good showing from the former X-Pac, but Styles gets the pin.
NWA Title Match: Raven vs. Abyss
What Should Happen: In this "dog collar match," I'd let Raven retain against the monster Abyss. With the TV situation the way it is, you have to keep the recognizable talent in high-profile spots. What Will Happen: Brutality and blood, with Raven keeping his belt. What Did Happen: Raven slammed Abyss head-first onto a bunch of thumb-tacks, then pinned the beast. Raven is still the NWA champ. That's it. As usual, my predictions were near-perfect. Four for five this week, with the lone loser being that Shark Boy pick. Oh well, I just like the guy. Must be that goofy mask. Now scram. Class dismissed!(Professor Wrestling is a masked employee of Internet Broadcasting. He'd love for TNA and WWE to go head-to-head on Monday nights.)
