Clarkson Changes Tune, Will Let 'Idol' Use Songs

Posted: 8:37 am EST January 19, 2006Updated: 8:59 am EST January 19, 2006

It looks like Kelly Clarkson's songs will be on "American Idol" after all.

Earlier this week, Clarkson's management said none of her material would be licensed for use by new competitors on the show.

But now, Clarkson's label, Sony BMG, said negotiations are under way with the show over which songs will be used.

Initially, Clarkson's spokesman said that the decision to block "American Idol" from using her songs was nothing personal.

But the show's outspoken judge, Simon Cowell, was livid about the news.

"By ignoring the show you're ignoring the audience who put you there," Cowell said Tuesday.

Clarkson rocketed to the top of the charts with "A Moment Like This" after she became the first singer to win the competition in 2002.

In the past year, her hit "Since U Been Gone" earned massive sales and critical respect and the album its featured on, "Breakaway," earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album.
