SkyQuest 2006The most exciting air sports event in Florida, SkyQuest 2006, comes to DeLand in mid-November. Skydive DeLand is hosting this dynamic blend of competition and demonstrations at the DeLand Municipal Airport. Skydivers from across the USA and around the world will be showing off their skills from November 16th thru 19th, 2006.

The spectacular combination of three different skydiving events offers the visitor a colorful and action-loaded live experience, up close and personal at the DeLand airport.

The Kaleidoscope Dives bring together a group of 100 world class skydivers who jump from 18,000 feet and build freefall formations with different patterns and shapes. Most of the participants of SkyQuest 2006 helped to complete a new world record 400-person formation this year in Thailand.

The Kaleidoscope Divers open their parachutes at about 4,000 feet, covering the skies with their colorful canopies as they fly to their landing areas.

The organizer of the 400-way world record, Mr. BJ Worth, is planning and managing the Kaleidoscope Dives. He is also a professional stuntman, having doubled for James Bond in several movies.

The NSL Championship 2006 is the 4-way team competition of SkyQuest 2006. Teams from the National Skydiving League go head-to-head to see who will be crowned 2006 champs. Competitors include reigning national and world champions.

During the competition, the 4-way Formation Skydiving teams exit the plane at 10,500 feet and perform a series of pre-selected maneuvers within 35 seconds to earn points. The freefall athletes separate and open their parachutes at roughly 2,500 feet. Each team's photographer films the performance in freefall. As soon as the team lands, the videotape is turned over to the judges. The public can watch the landings live and view the freefall competition part of the jump on TVs.

The third event is the Pond Swooping competition. Highly skilled skydivers scream across the water's surface at speeds approaching 70 miles an hour. They earn points with distance, speed and special maneuvers, all the while trying to avoid the threat of an embarrassing splash landing in the pond.

Throughout the show, the on-site restaurant Perfect Spot is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tandem skydives are available for those who want to experience the excitement of skydiving for themselves. Reservations are recommended.

The event admission is FREE for spectators, with FREE parking space, too.
