Gone but not forgotten, souls of the dead return during Orlando Museum of Art's (OMA's) 1st Thursdays event, "Dia de los Muertos," on November 1 from 6 to 9 pm. Festive offerings to the beloved departed include colorful works, artist demonstrations, and other ancient traditions explored by artists.
Festivities continue with live music performed by Mexican songwriter and folklorist David Peñaflor and tasty culinary fare provided by Vital Flair. View a traditional Mexican ofrenda, learn more about Mexican culture from representatives of Casa de Mexico, and honor the dead by dressing the theme -- no masks, please. Have your own portrait done by Caricatures by Maria or an artistic design done by Face Painting by Kayla. Visit Florida Artists Registry and Red Chair Project and learn more about the arts in Orlando.
Café offerings, handcrafted beers, wine, soft drinks and water will be available for purchase throughout the evening. Admission to 1st Thursdays is $10, always free for OMA Members, and includes admission to the OMA's permanent collections of American Art, African Art and Art of the Ancient Americas. Parking is free at Orlando Loch Haven Park; overflow parking is available at the Orlando Science Center parking garage. For more information, call 407 896 4231 x260, or visit www.OMArt.org.
