On Thursday, September 26th, 2013, Perkins Restaurant & Bakery will host its annual Give Kids The World Pancake Day to raise donations for this very worthy cause. This one-day fundraiser will offer a free short stack of Perkins pancakes to each guest; in return, guests will be asked to consider making a donation to GKTW.
Give Kids The World
The story of Give Kids The World begins with a little girl with a wish and the desire of one man to make that wish come true. Amy had leukemia and a wish to visit the theme parks in Orlando. Henri Landwirth, a hotelier, strove to fulfill Amy’s wish. However, time ran out and Amy passed before her wish could be fulfilled.
This unfulfilled wish inspired Henri to make a vow that no child in need would ever be failed again. Henri created “Give Kids the World” and its mission is to provide memorable, magical, cost-free experiences to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
As the program expanded and the number of families continued to grow, it was apparent that Give Kids The World would need to create a place that could better serve the special needs of our families. The gates of Give Kids The World Village opened in 1989.
Today the Village is a 70-acre resort complete with over 140 Villa accommodations, entertainment attractions, whimsical venues, and fun specifically designed for children with special needs and has welcomed more than 112,000 families from all 50 states and over 70 countries.
Perkins and Give Kids The World
Perkins Restaurant & Bakery has been a member of the Give Kids The World family since 1990. Through their dedicated fundraising efforts, Perkins opened the one-of-a-kind Gingerbread House Restaurant at the Village. Since that first day, the Gingerbread House has served more than three million hot meals to visiting Wish families. Every day of the year, Perkins provides delicious breakfasts and filling dinners amidst the charm and whimsy of the special restaurant itself.
Perkins Restaurant & Bakery supports the Gingerbread House year-round through a series of fundraisers in their restaurants, and through their annual employee-giving campaign.
